“Killing Atheism: Powerful Evidence and Reasons to Believe Jesus

The religious world has plenty of theologians and academicians telling us what to think and believe; what it needs is a few amateur exponents of Christianity (think C.S. Lewis) providing a fresh perspective, and that’s what the author of Killing Atheism does.

This book was written for those who are struggling with their faith or trying to help others, but cannot get around the problem of, “If there is a God, why doesn’t he show himself?” Killing Atheism by-passes traditional apologetics and powerfully shows that God does not hide. It describes irrefutable secular evidence demonstrating that the story of Christ must be true.

This book is not an academic endeavor, but a spiritual and evidentiary journey written for the layman, with only a few digressions into the world of traditional apologetics.

Chapter by chapter, the book shows how Jesus continues to reveal himself through miracles and physical evidence that have been independently verified. Two examples that stand out are the 1917 Miracle of the Sun at Fatima and the Shroud of Turin. They are generally well-known but misrepresented by skeptics and the secular press.

  1. On May 13, 1917 three children (ages 7, 8, and 10) said that a beautiful lady from heaven appeared and spoke with them. She gave them a few messages and asked them to return on the 13th for the next six months. In July, August, and September the Lady said that on October 13 she would reveal her identity and there would be a miracle at the Cova da Iria at noon so that all could believe. An estimated seventy thousand believers, press, skeptics, and atheists gathered around the Cova on October 13 to see what, if anything, would take place. It was then that they witnessed the spectacular and frightening Miracle of the Sun. The children had said a miracle would occur, and it did.
  1. The Shroud of Turin bears the image of a crucified man. Until 1898 the Shroud presented only a a vague shadowy image. Beginning in 1898 this all changed. For the first time, it was photographed and the negative plate revealed previously unknown details of a man brutally tortured and crucified in accordance with Roman practice in first century Jerusalem. Subsequent and continuing scientific analysis lead to only one logical conclusion: the Shroud is a photograph of Jesus at the instant of his resurrection.

Other miraculous events discussed, such as the Orthodox annual Holy Fire in Jerusalem are less familiar, but equally powerful. The book also includes detailed blow-by-blow accounts of five confirmed instantaneous miraculous healings as they occur and as described by witnesses and the beneficiary.

God does not hide, but maybe we do. All we have to do is look with deep humility.

The author, Ken Fredrickson, is a retired corporate and securities attorney, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from the University of California at Berkeley (summa cum laude from the School of Criminology). He spent years conducting research for this book and his next book, soon to be released, “Praying to and with Mary: A Layman’s Guide to Understand (and Defend).
